The Law of the Lord.

This world has lost its ever-loving mind! Amiright?

The other day I was reading through the news only to quickly close out my browser. I couldn’t handle all the discord and angst. There were too many opinions and a multitude of angry voices; it’s proving more difficult to discern what is true and what is false these days.

Closing my browser didn’t solve any of the world’s problems, but it did give me a second to brace myself before diving back in our world’s realities.

The truth is, here lately I’ve been closing my browser and not reopening it. Some days I simply can’t. It’s been too hard for me to decipher truth amidst the masses and I’ve exhausted myself trying to figure it out how to be wise in a world that seems to care more about quantity of likes/retweets than actual truth in grace.

But God, in His infinite mercy hasn’t left us alone in the chaos. Here is what His word says:

“The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul;

The testimony of the Lord is sure making wise the simple;

The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;

The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;

The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;

The rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether.

More to be desired are they than gold, even much find gold;

sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.

Moreover, but them is your servant warned;

in keeping them there is great reward.”

Psalm 19:7-11

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.” Psalm 1:1-3

Friends, we haven’t been abandoned in this chaotic world. God has left us wisdom in His word that will root us deeply to the things that matter. I love how the first passage says that the law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. I don’t know about you, but I could use some reviving.
And His word, it never returns void.

Are you spending time studying Scripture?
Are you a part of a life-giving community where you can know and be known?

If not, can I encourage you to start there?

In seasons where my plate is full and my heart is aching for the broken world around us, the quantity of time I spend in Scriptures and Community directly affects my ability to stay firmly rooted, bearing much fruit. When I try to do it on my own, I always end up exhausted, tipped over, not knowing which way is up or down. But when my delight is in the law of the Lord and I am walking with His people, the things of this world grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace. I am better able to discern and stand for truth.

Want to have a revived soul, a rejoicing heart, be wise and fear the Lord?
Learn to love the law of the Lord. And learn to do it with God’s people.

What makes a difference in your life when you get overwhelmed?

What passages of Scripture do you turn to?

Who is speaking truth in your life when it’s hard to discern wisdom amidst the chaos?

Hoping and fighting for TRUTH with you,
Brittany
